Glinda the Wellness Coach
Have you ever heard that pesky inner voice telling you something but it was easier to ignore than listen? It’s not audible to the outside world so no one else can acknowledge it or place judgement on it. Sometimes we don’t trust what it’s telling us. As a result, your inner voice has the potential to be both the most healing and the most damaging voice.
Perhaps you’ve spent your whole life seeking external validation. It begins as a survival instinct, right? You come out of this ooey gooey womb hoping that someone will bring you food and shelter. You quickly learn, through trial and error, what gestures or behaviors result in love and nourishment. Even if that requires you to ignore that inner voice that is telling you something is off.
Through life your body begins to speak up and rebel against your efforts to drown out what it’s been trying to tell you. But you still aren’t listening. You feel big emotions coming over you without knowing how to handle them or where they’re coming from. You vomit every morning for a year, not because of an eating disorder but a visceral reaction to the life you have to face today. So you turn to unproductive behaviors like shopping, overeating, undereating, or other destructive habit patterns that aren’t addressing the underlying issue. That’s still not a loud enough cry, instead of thinking they’re trying to tell you something, you ignore it.
Neglecting to listen leads to self doubt and a vicious cycle that negatively impacts your health. The compounding discomfort of this over approximately 3 decades give or take makes it challenging to know how to use your voice at all. Let alone to establish boundaries, making you uncomfortable and defensive. Which then leads to grown woman tantrums leaving you feeling embarrassed and ashamed. Now, your flight instinct is heightened which doesn’t allow you to get curious and uncover what you are really searching for;
Unconditional love and acceptance.
It’s amazing how you can experience a story, show, or a movie a million times but each time something different resonates because of where you are in that moment. If you’ve ever seen the Wizard of Oz you may have missed this moment in the end where Dorothy tells Glinda she’s ready to go home. Glinda responds with "you don’t need me to get there, you’ve always had the power, my dear. You’ve had it all along.” Dorothy reacts with frustration and confusion, and Glinda explains that even if she had told Dorothy, she wouldn’t have believed her.
